Course Overview

Develop the skills to deploy, secure, automate and operate cloud infrastructure on Amazon Web Services. Start with IT foundations, Linux, networking, Git and scripting, then progress to AWS services, Terraform, Docker, container deployment, delivery automation and monitoring. The course combines cloud infrastructure knowledge with the industry tools used to manage applications and investigate operational faults.

Learning Outcome

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Administer Linux services, diagnose network faults and use Git, Bash and Python for routine cloud administration tasks.
  2. Deploy AWS compute, storage, networking and database resources with appropriate identity and access controls.
  3. Provision infrastructure with Terraform, package applications with Docker and automate AWS container releases using GitHub Actions.
  4. Use monitoring, troubleshooting, rollback and recovery techniques to operate cloud services and explain architectural decisions.

What You Will Learn

Go from Idea to Impact, become a Cloud Computing Engineer in 3-6 Months.

Module 1 - IT and Cloud Foundations
  • Understand computers, operating systems, servers, virtual machines and cloud service models.
  • Explain how DNS, HTTP, localhost and listening ports support web communication.
  • Set up Linux, VS Code and Git, then create a GitHub repository and commit changes.
  • Manage Linux files, users, groups, permissions, packages, processes and services.
  • Use logs, environment variables, pipes, redirection and exit codes to investigate system behaviour.
  • Write Bash conditionals, loops, functions and health checks, and schedule safe maintenance tasks.
  • Explain IPv4, CIDR, subnets, TCP, UDP, ports, routing, gateways and NAT.
  • Interpret DNS records, HTTP status codes, TLS connections and certificate validation.
  • Troubleshoot with ip, ss, curl and dig, and manage Git branches, pull requests and merge conflicts.
  • Write Python scripts using variables, lists, dictionaries, conditionals, loops and functions.
  • Handle exceptions, imports, virtual environments, packages, JSON and CSV data.
  • Add automated checks, collaborate through Git and document repeatable setup procedures.
  • Explain AWS Regions, Availability Zones, shared responsibility, account security and MFA.
  • Manage IAM roles, policies, trust and least privilege, and authenticate the CLI with temporary credentials.
  • Secure S3 storage with encryption, versioning and access policies, and control costs through budgets and cleanup.
  • Configure VPCs, subnets, route tables, gateways, security groups and network ACLs.
  • Deploy EC2 instances with EBS storage, user data, application configuration and instance roles.
  • Access servers through Systems Manager Session Manager and inspect CloudWatch logs and EC2 metrics.
  • Use CloudWatch alarms, scaling signals and health checks to understand availability and failure domains.
  • Configure Application Load Balancer, launch templates and EC2 Auto Scaling across Availability Zones.
  • Explain Route 53 DNS, ACM certificates, TLS and CloudFront caching.
  • Use PostgreSQL tables, keys, basic SQL and application connection strings.
  • Configure private RDS connectivity and subnet groups, then validate snapshots and database restoration.
  • Explain RTO and RPO, compare DynamoDB use cases and explore a simple Lambda function.
  • Explain Infrastructure as Code and define HCL providers, resources and dependencies.
  • Manage variables, outputs, sensitive values, version constraints and the dependency lock file.
  • Use Terraform init, fmt, validate, plan, apply and destroy, and explain infrastructure state.
  • Build reusable Terraform modules and configure separate environment inputs.
  • Protect remote state in S3 using encryption, restricted access and supported lockfile locking.
  • Investigate drift, import resources, manage collaboration risks and automate AWS tasks with the Python SDK.
